It’s Time…

This week’s Big Orange Roundtable Buy epogen without prescription, is hosted by … ummm … oh, yeah, it’s our week.  We here at the Gate are proud to host the 2009 kickoff edition of the Big Orange Roundtable as we all get ready to tee it up and kick it down for the 112th season of Tennessee Volunteers Football.

Week 8

1) (From HSH)  We've talked through the past month or so about just about everything we could talk about regarding this Tennessee team: the quarterbacks, offensive line, freshman, Eric Berry, finding healthy wide receivers, freshman again, etc. So the simple question is this: what do you expect or what specifically are you looking for from the Vols against Western Kentucky this Saturday?

HSH: First things first, Western Kentucky is not going to be anything close to resembling a quality football team.  They were recently a power in 1-AA, but this is their first full year in 1-A, and have the potential to be one of the worst teams to come to Neyland Stadium in a while (yes, Order cytoxan no prescription, I'm including Wyoming).  They went just 2-10 last year (the wins were Eastern Kentucky and Murray State) and return just 12 starters from that team.

So if Tennessee hangs 60 points on the Hilltoppers, oh, well it was just Western Kentucky, right?  Not exactly.  I want to see Tennessee score lots of points Saturday afternoon.  I expect Lane Kiffin will want to pound the rock with the running backs.  I want to see a confident Jonathan Crompton that doesn't make any mistakes and crisply runs the offense.

Lawvol: I expect and hope to see a few things.  First, I am not exactly expecting grandeur for this first game of the 2009 season, Maryland MD Md., but what I am expecting to see is poise and purpose.  I am hoping that this team brings their attitude—one which was sorely missing last season—and refuses to play down to the level of their opponent which they should beat under almost any circumstance.

Let’s be honest, Western Kentucky went 2-10 last season which made even the Vols’ 5-7 campaign seem decent.  Prior to 2008, however, Western Kentucky had a streak of 12 straight winning seasons, and look to be on the upswing.  That said, The Vols have got to play with a little spark and bring their best game to their opponent—regardless of the quality of that opponent.  The Vols have to play their game and not let it be dictated to them by their opponent.

Most of all, generic casodex, I am looking to see a team that is glad to be on the field playing once more.  I hope that we begin to see the development of the new Kiffin system and hopefully get a huge relief when the quarterback play is surprisingly crisp and effective.  This is a confidence game which is only a good thing if you perform in a manner that inspires confidence

3) Looking back over the last year and a half, it has been an absolute roller coaster ride for the Vols and their fans.  A lot of excitement has been building to this very moment as Tennessee gets set to take the field for the 2009 season.  How do you feel with kickoff only days away?  Are you excited?  Ready to to start kickin' ass and taking names?  Unsure?  Worried?  Shaking like a little girl?  Incapable of speaking coherently due to complete and utter hysterical fear?

HSH: I would call myself quietly confident.  I know Tennessee's going to come out and pound Western Kentucky Saturday afternoon and I'm looking more towards watching to see how all the new parts look in a game than anything else.

Now when those powder-blue-and-gold folks come calling next week, then it's showtime.  Not only is UCLA quite possibly the game that determines the first half of our season, but I—and I’m not alone—haven't forgotten the embarrassment they caused the Vol Nation last September. They were the beneficiaries of an epic Vol fail on ESPN on Labor Day and that must be avenged.

So to keep it short, I'm ready to get Saturday's win over Western over with, halvalla evista apteekki, so we can start really getting the juices flowing for when UCLA visits.  This Saturday will be a nice little greeting time and introduction time for everybody, but we'll know much, much more about the Vols sometime around 8 p.m. September 4th.

4) Alright, Florida FL Fla., we've come through all of the previews and prognostications thus far but one real question remains: in the minds of each of the Roundtablers how do you expect the Vols to fare against the competition on their schedule?  Which games do they win, which games do they lose, and why?

HSH: Here’s my picks for the season:

  Western Kentucky: WIN — Lane Kiffin's not going to lose his first game, and Western Kentucky isn't really that good at football right now.


• 
  
  UCLA: WIN — Neither team was good last year, Maine ME Me., and I don't know who's improved more, but there is absolutely no way a Pac-10 team should come 3,000 miles cross-country and beat Tennessee in Neyland Stadium (see Cal 2006).


• 
  
  Florida: LOSS — Look, we aren't going to get beat 175-0, but we aren't going to beat Florida. They are more talented, order cytoxan online cheap, deeper, faster, it's really hot in the afternoons in Gainesville, and they have Tim Tebow.

  Kentucky: WIN — Tennessee always beats Kentucky.

Lawvol: I’m an idiot, but here’s what I think:

  Western Kentucky: WIN — Even last year we win this one.  Western Kentucky is just out-manned.  In fact, to keep from showing our looks to the likes of Florida and such, I think we should only start Eric Berry, Koop korting casodex, and let him take on the entire Western Kentucky squad.  In that scenario, I’d say Western Kentucky 3, Eric Berry 42.

  UCLA: WIN — This one actually scares me a bit because the Bruins managed to beat us last year and they just plain sucked.  Still, it should be entertaining to see The Full Monte versus Norm Chow’s offense.  I think the last thing that the Blackjack General wants to do is lose to his old cross-town whipping boy from his days at USC.

  Georgia: WIN — I think that the loss of Stafford and Moreno leave Georgia with an anemic offense which our defense can handle.  Furthermore, Minnesota MN Minn., with an effective running game (set behind a zone blocking scheme which will have had some time to gel) I think the Vols get it done in a barnburner that goes down to the wire.

  Alabama: LOSS — This game could go either way, but I think Nick Saban will have time to get his offense settled by this late in the season and the home field advantage is just too much for the Vols.  That said, if they win against Florida and have anything left in the tank Volunteers leave it on the field in Tuscaloosa and could pull out an unlikely win.


• 
  
  Carolina: WIN — I think we return to what we have seen in years past from the Thunder Chickens as they awe the world with their average-ness once more.  I think one year after Spurrier pushed Smiling Mike to the point of firing the Great Punkin, The Ole Ball Coach announces his retirement the day after the Vols win.


• 
  
  Memphis: WIN — There is no way that the Vols should lose this game.  Of course, there was no way the Vols should have lost in 1996 either.  Still, a betting man calls this one a win.


• 
  
  Ole Miss: WIN — The Vols have Memphis the preceding week, while Ole Miss has Northern Arizona (I didn’t even know they had a team).  Thus, both should have a week to get healthy and buck-up.  If Ole Miss is leading in the West, then the Vols have their work cut out for them.  If not, then the Vols have a lot more to play for — respect.  This could easily go Ole Miss’ way, but I’m giving the Vols the nod (for now).


• 
  
  Vanderbilt: WIN — Hmmm … Vandy actually looks to have a better squad than last year, but so do the Vols.  Tennessee by double digits.


• 
  
  Kentucky: WIN — The complete lack of a defense by the Kentucky Wildcats helps balance out Tennessee’s weaknesses on offense.  The Orange stretch the streak on more year.

The highlights and lowlights of the new system and a brief history of my own student tickets experiences after the jump.

For those that might have missed it, ESPN's Outside the Lines ran a feature story on Lane Kiffin this morning. In case you did miss it, take a moment and watch it.

Now, I think most of us can agree on the quality of that report in terms of a positive portrayal of Tennessee's football coach and the confidence (outsiders will say arrogance, of course) he has in his plan. What he says about rivals' fans and coaches at the very end might be my favorite part of the story - other than the parts with the lovely Layla.

In case you were not aware, am I currently a student at UT, entering my senior year. I am majoring in journalism/electronic media here in Knoxville, and as I get closer to having to go out and start working, I find myself watching all kinds of TV - the local news, SportsCenter, highlight shows, the Tonight Shows with Conan/Letterman - and noticing different specific journalistic and production aspects that most of you probably don't, simply because I have a better understanding of it (I am studying and doing some of this stuff, after all).

Put another way, what lawvol is to law, I am to journalism - except much less of an expert, obviously.

Anyways, this is a really good piece from a journalistic point of view, and credit Wendi Nix for doing a good job. It covers the recent stories surrounding Coach Kiffin and the program very well, and gets added input from other sources - the Raiders, Ed Orgeron, Mike Hamilton, Layla, and USC head coach Pete Carroll. The piece is very visual, with clips from Kiffin's various public appearances to shots at the spring game and spending time with his daughters at World's Fair Park in downtown Knoxville.

However, the part in question (and where I find issue with ESPN) comes with just under two minutes left in the story. In Coach Kiffin's office, you see him and assistant coach Eddie Gran speaking with a couple of recruits. It isn't in the video linked above, but after the completion of the feature, Bob Ley, the host of the show and longtime ESPN personality, says that the clip is actually a secondary violation. Media members cannot witness the contact between a coach and a recruit.

There are a variety of theories about this, and maybe it's not even that big of a deal. Perhaps ESPN threw that in there to create a story. Perhaps they showed somebody at UT the story and UT didn't know or didn't even care that there may have been a minor violation (it was Florida commit Lamarcus Joyner, so the Take that, Urban! possibility enhances that theory). We're taught that when you interview someone, you don't show them what you're going to use or the final product, because they may want to change it and that may influence how you report a story (if I look like a moron in an interview, I'll want to change that, right?). I have no idea if ESPN goes by that or how they do it, but that's beside the point.

The problem I have with taking this story and throwing that little jab in at the end is this: the fundamental bottom line purpose of a journalist is to report the news. Present the necessary information in an accurate, unbiased way. Theoretically, you're supposed to lose credibility if people find bias or inaccuracies in your reporting. It has to do with more or less being a service to the public and operating in their interest.

As a small disclaimer: no, I don't watch any of the politics-heavy stations that skew stuff. And in today's age, most people will find problems in the way you report or write a story just to find problems. Also, if a story disagrees with someone's opinion, it's automatically dismissed - that's just the world we are living in. You can't and you're not gonna please everybody. Also, I think everyone is biased and personally it's near impossible to hide that.

It just seems to me that the point of the piece was to show Tennessee football under Lane Kiffin in a more in-depth way. It was effort to see what Lane's behavior - the comments, the violations, etc - really is a reflection of: his arrogance, his brilliance, or his inexperience. Why do you feel the need to throw in the bit about the violation? It just seems they felt the need to add the scene with Kiffin and the recruit for no other reason than to create another story.

ESPN could have taken a clip or used another one. For example, Nix mentions the number of recruits that visited Knoxville for the Orange/White Game. Why not show a shot of recruits standing on the sidelines or sitting in the stands watching the game? It's not like the recruits don't stick out on campus, could getting a shot of them on a tour or at the game been impossible for ESPN?

I'll try another scenario. I'm a reporter doing an interview with Barack Obama. In this scenario, Obama has just made a couple of foolish remarks (insert G.W. Bush jokes here) and told some other world leaders they're idiots. However, the focus of my story is how Obama is really a genius behind-the-scenes and a family man. However, I get a clip of him kicking Bo, the family dog, because Bo just kept digging holes in the White House flower beds.

As I'm putting the story together, I see this clip. Should I use it or not? It doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of my story, but man, the uproar I could create by putting it in there! OK, it's a little extreme and probably an awful comparison, but I think it's the same point.

It's almost as if ESPN set Tennessee and Kiffin up by doing the story, and then finding this to make more out of it. I don't think I would be alone in feeling that way.

I'm not saying this means ESPN is going to lose all of its credibility and viewers because they push and may have crossed the boundary of journalism ethics. I just think if you're looking for examples of how not to be respected, professional institution focused on presenting information as clearly as possible, then this would qualify.

I'll use another such example. Earlier this year Sports Illustrated reported Boston College DT B.J. Raji failed a drug test at the NFL Combine. Raji disputed that report, and it turned out SI.com was wrong. Think Raji will be willing to do any SI interviews anytime soon? Doubt it.

Maybe UT wanted it this way. Any publicity is good publicity seems to be the line of thinking over there. Maybe I'm wrong about ESPN. I'm sure they have their reasons for doing what they did. Maybe I'm being biased myself. Maybe I'm a moron. Maybe I'm making much ado about nothing. After all, it's just a measly secondary violation...

Either way, playing some football games would render all this pretty moot. August can't get here quick enough...

At a press conference early this morning, UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton announced that starting this season the Home of the Vols—known since 1962 as Neyland Stadium—will have a new name: “Nissan Stadium at Neyland Landing”

Joined by UT Acting President Jan Simek, Athletics Board leader Jim Haslam, head football coach Lane Kiffin, and Nissan representatives, Hamilton unveiled preliminary designs for the new stadium logo and explained why Nissan was ultimately chosen as the new principal naming partner for Tennessee’s most visible icon.

This is an historic opportunity for athletics at Tennessee and for the stadium that we all love.  Furthermore, this partnership assures the financial future of this program for many years to come.  When we began the process of exploring a naming alliance, from the outset, we were committed to forging a pact with an organization that was both committed to this great state, but also one that fans and alumni could be proud of.  That is precisely what Nissan could offer.  Furthermore, this historic alliance only serves to amplify the national respect for Tennessee football and for the university as a whole.

In total, Nissan will contribute over .1 billion to the UT athletics program over the next 5 years.  Though unconfirmed at this time, there were indications that Nissan is considering a re-branding of its products to feature an orange and black color scheme.

Since the start of the athletic department’s master plan renovations to Neyland Stadium in 2004, the project has been funded by private funding sources.  UT Athletics Board leader Jim Haslam noted that, while largely relying upon VASF donors, the scope and size of the project was such that corporate partners were envisioned from the beginning.   “While it was never publicly advertised, the naming rights for the stadium were always available,” said Haslam.  Haslam also indicated that other companies were considered, but none could provide what Nissan ultimately offered.

The alliance with Nissan will fund the remainder of the $ 200 million phase III of the Master Plan renovations already underway, as well as future renovations to the stadium which have yet to commence.  In addition to its contributions to athletics, Nissan will also make sizable donations to the UT educational endowments, especially in areas tied to engineering and the automotive industry.

Since the 1982 construction of the Nissan assembly facility in Smyrna, Nissan has been committed to the State of Tennessee, this partnership with the University of Tennessee further cements that pledge to the people of this great state.  This is our bond to the people of Tennessee.  At Nissan we expect excellence, evidenced by the quality automotive products our thousands of Tennessee and worldwide employees produce.  The Tennessee athletics program is equally known for its excellence and its tradition of winning.  That is why Nissan is here.

In addition to its global facilities, Nissan currently operates facilities in Smyrna, Jackson, Franklin, and Decherd, Tennessee and in Canton, Mississippi.  The Smyrna facility, which employs more than 6,000 Tennesseans, covers 5.4 million square feet on 884 acres.  More than one-half million vehicles are produced there every year.

The announcement was not uniformly greeted with cheers of enthusiasm.  Some Vol fans are disturbed at the notion of changing the name of the stadium.  Knoxville resident Hooper Hollingsworth said, “I’m glad that Nissan wants to help out, but that’s Neyland Stadium, not some car company.”  Others were uniformly opposed to the proposition, “This is just another sellout.  What’s next, the Swaggerty’s Sausage Arena?” said Gus Harris of Clinton.  Some also noted that it was ironic that this announcement came one year to the day after the announcement that one of Knoxville’s other icons—the Sunsphere—was to be demolished.

The official renaming of the stadium is currently scheduled to take place during halftime of the September 5th football season opener versus Western Kentucky.

Vols Outlast Marquette

At least it wasn't another loss.

It was another start, but fortunately Tennessee was able to fight their way back to a halftime tie Tuesday night in Nashville. As I was sitting watching a halftime show featuring two contestants who hit a combined two three-pointers in 35 seconds (no joke, one guy did not move his feet the entire time, not even jumping), I was expecting a battle in the second half. Honestly, I was excited for the promising outlook of a quality basketball game.

Well, then the men in striped shirts came out of the tunnel...

Seriously, great win for Tennessee and all, but I drove three hours in a cloudy, misty fog to watch Tennessee and Marquette play basketball, not for the referees to take over the show and call 54 fouls. If this doesn't count as a "free-throw shooting contest" - 71 combined freebies - then I don't know what is. And it wasn't one-sided really or anything like that. It was just atrocious.

OK, enough of that rant. Amidst all the fouling, the game was entertaining to watch. The large Tennessee crowd was into it, and Marquette probably definitely had more fans in the Sommet Center than did Vanderbilt. Marquette is located in Milwaukee; Vandy is five minutes down the road. Fortunately for me, I didn't get to the arena until the last four minutes of the South Florida-Vanderbilt snooze-fest the preceded the Vols-Eagles game. Even in those four minutes, I might as well been watching a couple D-2 schools...

OK, enough fun at Vanderbilt's expense (oh yeah, our worst football team ever beat their first bowl team in 25 years...). As Ghost over at 3SIB so eloquently put it, this Tennessee team is frustrating to watch at times. For example, the three or four turnovers on alley-oop attempts that are clearly not there. Missed open and contested threes, which we fans aren't used to (late first half comes to mind, when Maze had a WIDE-OPEN look from the wing in transition...and missed it). Failure to switch on some pick-and-rolls, leaving open looks at three for the opponent. Heck, even when Scotty Hopson chased down a loose ball right under the basket - and proceeded to not properly secure it and score two easy points - you can't help but not be a little flustered.

All that said, this team fought through it - the fouls, the poor outside shooting, the stifling Marquette defense on Tyler Smith, the night Wes Matthews had, the late runs Marquette made, the last of which was silenced by this unlikely source...

After feeble and failed attempts at catching something YouTubeable and postable, Josh Tabb makes my night and essentially seals the win over Marquette. So, from all of us here at Gate 21 me, thank you, Josh Tabb.

And also a huge, HUGE thanks to Wayne Chism. Smilin' Wayne showed up to the tune of 27 points, 11 board, 8-of-11 from the field and the line, and a pair of huge second half threes. After Marquette had made a mini-run to take a 48-46 lead, Chism scored 15 of Tennessee's next 19 points, to forge the Vols to a 65-58 lead.

Actually, you could argue that the Dominic James technical foul more or less turned the tide, as Tennessee took a six-point lead thanks to the pairs of free throws converted by Tyler Smith and Chism. After Lazar Hayward hit the three that Tabb answered, Marquette did not score.

As for the judging of Tennessee's play, the defense was better, if only statistically. Yes, Marquette got too many open looks, a few of which Tennessee was fortunate to have not go down, but the Eagles made 8 threes and only 10 twos, and shot under 40% for the game, and in each half. It may have been a little iffy at times, but there were improvements in that area.

Three-point shooting is going to be an issue all year. Honestly, Renaldo Woolridge might be the most consistent guy in that aspect. He's certainly not afraid of shooting. We've seen Cam Tatum go off. Still awaiting Scotty Hopson to have a "breakout" game with his beautiful, rainbow, nearly-hitting-the-center-hung-scoreboard it's-got-so-much-arc J. It was good to see Tabb, the defensive stopper (kudos to him on guarding James most of the night), hit a big three in a tough spot.

Offensively, the Vols had no answer to Marquette's trapping 1-3-1 zone until they started to attack it with the dribble. I think having J.P. Prince, who's value as an experienced wing player and defender should no longer be underestimated, likely would have helped in that regard. Bobby Maze still isn't quite there yet, but his play Tuesday was better than Saturday.

But finally, back to Wayne. He has the upside, he just now needs to put solid performances together. And I wish people would quit groaning everytime he lines up a three. Like it or not, it's part of the offense, people. He hits one of his four or five attempts each game, which is about what the other guys are doing anyways. That said, I think he needs to utilize his post game more, and look to earn trips to line, because he's obviously worked on his free-throw stroke.

The Vols now have two home games to close out 2008, against Belmont Saturday afternoon and Louisiana-Lafayette the 29th. Then of course is the 2009-opening trip out to Lawrence to play Kansas January 3rd. I would say that's the next test, but let's not sleep on those Bruins. Just in the last week, Cleveland State won at Syracuse, Texas struggled with two in-state schools and Memphis beat Arkansas-Little Rock by all of 8 points. Let's hope the young Vols can build off this W...

Gate 21 is proud to host this week's Roundtable!

It’s Time…

This week’s Big Orange Roundtable Buy epogen without prescription, is hosted by … ummm … oh, yeah, it’s our week.  We here at the Gate are proud to host the 2009 kickoff edition of the Big Orange Roundtable as we all get ready to tee it up and kick it down for the 112th season of Tennessee Volunteers Football.

With that lovely prospect in mind, let’s get down to business:

Week 8

1) (From HSH)  We've talked through the past month or so about just about everything we could talk about regarding this Tennessee team: the quarterbacks, offensive line, freshman, Eric Berry, finding healthy wide receivers, freshman again, etc. So the simple question is this: what do you expect or what specifically are you looking for from the Vols against Western Kentucky this Saturday?

HSH: First things first, Western Kentucky is not going to be anything close to resembling a quality football team.  They were recently a power in 1-AA, but this is their first full year in 1-A, and have the potential to be one of the worst teams to come to Neyland Stadium in a while (yes, Order cytoxan no prescription, I'm including Wyoming).  They went just 2-10 last year (the wins were Eastern Kentucky and Murray State) and return just 12 starters from that team.

So if Tennessee hangs 60 points on the Hilltoppers, oh, well it was just Western Kentucky, right?  Not exactly.  I want to see Tennessee score lots of points Saturday afternoon.  I expect Lane Kiffin will want to pound the rock with the running backs.  I want to see a confident Jonathan Crompton that doesn't make any mistakes and crisply runs the offense.

Defensively, I want to see which freshmen make an early impact in their first games, and how they handle playing for real.  On both sides, zometa farmacia a buon mercato, I want to see swagger—OK, it's WKU, but we could be playing my high school's team and I would still want to see our players have a wealth of confidence in themselves and their coaches that creates said swagger.

Lawvol: I expect and hope to see a few things.  First, I am not exactly expecting grandeur for this first game of the 2009 season, Maryland MD Md., but what I am expecting to see is poise and purpose.  I am hoping that this team brings their attitude—one which was sorely missing last season—and refuses to play down to the level of their opponent which they should beat under almost any circumstance.

Let’s be honest, Western Kentucky went 2-10 last season which made even the Vols’ 5-7 campaign seem decent.  Prior to 2008, however, Western Kentucky had a streak of 12 straight winning seasons, and look to be on the upswing.  That said, The Vols have got to play with a little spark and bring their best game to their opponent—regardless of the quality of that opponent.  The Vols have to play their game and not let it be dictated to them by their opponent.

Most of all, generic casodex, I am looking to see a team that is glad to be on the field playing once more.  I hope that we begin to see the development of the new Kiffin system and hopefully get a huge relief when the quarterback play is surprisingly crisp and effective.  This is a confidence game which is only a good thing if you perform in a manner that inspires confidence

2) The last time I had to come up with questions for the Roundtable, you may remember our visit to the debate over the “Woo!” in Rocky Top.  Along those lines, I want to get the take on a similar topic: pompons, or shakers if you prefer that.

The basis of this comes from Clay Travis' book, Buy casodex online without prescription, Dixieland Delight, which I read this summer and I suggest you look into as well. First, read what Clay says about pompons/shakers (Note that this is straight from the book).

Once you've done that, you're on the spot: do you make use of said pompons/shakers at Tennessee games?

HSH: As a student, Um capecitabine online, of course, we have the things basically thrown at us because they're in our seats when we get to the game. I was more inclined to use them as a freshman three years ago, but now I don't even think about using them.

Why. They're annoying and they're for the pretty sorority girls all dressed up, buy epogen without prescription. Not only that, but they occasionally block even my view of the field (I'm not exactly a short guy, either) and I every now and then get hit by the person behind me using theirs.

I know I sound really uptight, but neither of those above things really bother me - they're just reasons I'm anti-shakers. But much like the Rocky Top "Woo!" they aren't going anywhere...

Lawvol: As a general rule I am not a shaker guy, ordering zometa no rx, at least not now.  When I was a student, I did on occasion raise a shaker or two into the air in jubilation, but I was never a huge fan of shakers as a means to display support for the team.  I have, however, South Dakota SD, put shakers to good use in other ways.  In 1997, while on a road trip to Florida, I did assemble a wig of nothing but shakers which looked particularly fetching with my blue eyes and was all the rage with the folks in Gainesville—that is until they pounded our faces into the pavement with their Jorts-clad backsides.  Needless to say, I decided the wig was a bad idea.

I have, however, discovered that a properly wielded shaker can make a wonderful implement of self-defense, comprar cytoxan, nee’ “weapon.” First and foremost, a shaker is a wonderfully effective way to bash people over the head who annoy you in the stadium.  Shakers are not terribly menacing, per se, but when slung with force (and especially when wet) they can approximate the feeling one gets when being bashed over the head with a plate of spaghetti (sans the plate).  The beauty of this is that, Evista prescription, having pummeled your foe you can simply play it off as if you were merely overcome by a fit of gleeful spirit at the Vols’ performance on the field, or the First Tennessee ad on the Jumbotron.

The pointy end of a shaker (i.e. “the handle”) can also serve as an effective means of poking people in the ribs.  This works particularly well when you obscure the handle behind your other arm and simply poke the end out into an the ribs of an unsuspecting bystander while standing in a throng of people clamoring to get out of the stadium after the game.  A true raconteur will do this so that, the object of the barb is a particularly burly fellow wearing orange who is … ill tempered with strong drink.  Immediately after doing that, you must turn quickly around and yell loudly at the Florida fan behind you to quit poking you.  Then repeat the jab on the burly orange fellow only harder, and watch the fur fly (preferably from a distance, ostaa halvalla zometa, but be sure and hang around to give a statement to the police).

Finally, shakers can actually be used to disperse a crowd quite quickly, especially if you have numerous shakers.  Simply find a cigarette lighter, and imagine yourself as one of the great medieval archers lighting your arrow and hurl the flaming shakers into the crowd.  This won’t win you many friends and though it might get you arrested, Buy casodex, it is highly entertaining…**

3) Looking back over the last year and a half, it has been an absolute roller coaster ride for the Vols and their fans.  A lot of excitement has been building to this very moment as Tennessee gets set to take the field for the 2009 season.  How do you feel with kickoff only days away?  Are you excited?  Ready to to start kickin' ass and taking names?  Unsure?  Worried?  Shaking like a little girl?  Incapable of speaking coherently due to complete and utter hysterical fear?

HSH: I would call myself quietly confident.  I know Tennessee's going to come out and pound Western Kentucky Saturday afternoon and I'm looking more towards watching to see how all the new parts look in a game than anything else.

Now when those powder-blue-and-gold folks come calling next week, then it's showtime.  Not only is UCLA quite possibly the game that determines the first half of our season, but I—and I’m not alone—haven't forgotten the embarrassment they caused the Vol Nation last September. They were the beneficiaries of an epic Vol fail on ESPN on Labor Day and that must be avenged.

So to keep it short, I'm ready to get Saturday's win over Western over with, halvalla evista apteekki, so we can start really getting the juices flowing for when UCLA visits.  This Saturday will be a nice little greeting time and introduction time for everybody, but we'll know much, much more about the Vols sometime around 8 p.m. September 4th.

Lawvol: I am hopefully optimistic, Kjøpe billig epogen, but realize that things could go poorly for the Vols this season.  Thus, I think I am taking the wait-and-see approach and am hoping that we will see a few fireworks this Saturday.  Mainly, I am just hoping that the Vols return to being a team once more and that the fans finally start cheering and quit booing like they did last season.  Thus, I am a little worried about the in-the-stands aspect of the game.

Either way, for this week, I am pretty pumped because Western Kentucky doesn’t have a whole lot of fire.  As for the Florida game … I’ll get back to you on that one.

4) Alright, Florida FL Fla., we've come through all of the previews and prognostications thus far but one real question remains: in the minds of each of the Roundtablers how do you expect the Vols to fare against the competition on their schedule?  Which games do they win, which games do they lose, and why?

HSH: Here’s my picks for the season:

• 
  
  Western Kentucky: WIN — Lane Kiffin's not going to lose his first game, and Western Kentucky isn't really that good at football right now.


• 
  
  UCLA: WIN — Neither team was good last year, Maine ME Me., and I don't know who's improved more, but there is absolutely no way a Pac-10 team should come 3,000 miles cross-country and beat Tennessee in Neyland Stadium (see Cal 2006).


• 
  
  Florida: LOSS — Look, we aren't going to get beat 175-0, but we aren't going to beat Florida. They are more talented, order cytoxan online cheap, deeper, faster, it's really hot in the afternoons in Gainesville, and they have Tim Tebow.


• 
  
  Ohio: WIN — This game kind of scares me, Order gleevec from canada, but Tennessee's not going to lose to Ohio.


• 
  
  Auburn: WIN — Because Gene Chizik is the coach of the Tigers.  Also, right now, Chris Todd is their QB. Even if he was throwing to Andre and Calvin Johnson, he still would be no better a QB than what the Vols have.  Even simpler: Tennessee should have won last year, and they added a much better recruiting class.


• 
  
  Georgia: LOSS — The Vols can win this game, Um epogen online, but UGA's two strengths are their lines, which isn't exactly what we're looking at right now.


• 
  
  Alabama: LOSS — I would expect a low-scoring game, but Alabama's the better team playing at home, so I'm not going out on a limb.


• 
  
  Carolina: WIN — When the Gamecocks lose Thursday night, Bestill evista online, people will see the issues they have.  Unless Stephen Garcia blows up, I don't expect much from Carolina.  They'll be solid on defense, but they lost Kenny McKinley and Jared Cook and the offensive line has been iffy at best.

  Memphis: WIN — It's only not happened once.


• 
  
  Ole Miss: LOSS — Unless the Rebels tank amidst the preseason hype - as they are fully capable of doing - you can't expect Tennessee to win in Oxford.


• 
  
  Vanderbilt: WIN — 2005 was a fluke and a half.


• 
  
  Kentucky: WIN — Tennessee always beats Kentucky.

Lawvol: I’m an idiot, but here’s what I think:

  Western Kentucky: WIN — Even last year we win this one.  Western Kentucky is just out-manned.  In fact, to keep from showing our looks to the likes of Florida and such, I think we should only start Eric Berry, Koop korting casodex, and let him take on the entire Western Kentucky squad.  In that scenario, I’d say Western Kentucky 3, Eric Berry 42.


• 
  
  UCLA: WIN — This one actually scares me a bit because the Bruins managed to beat us last year and they just plain sucked.  Still, it should be entertaining to see The Full Monte versus Norm Chow’s offense.  I think the last thing that the Blackjack General wants to do is lose to his old cross-town whipping boy from his days at USC.


• 
  
  Florida: We have a chance — Yes, Comprare casodex sconto, I realize this is not an answer to the question, but I think we might have a chance.  Why?  I think that the chutzpah that Kiffin has shown, paired with all the bulletin board material over the last year counts for something.  I think if there is anyway humanly possible for the Vols to string together an unlikely victory on heart alone, this is the one.  If the Vols win, it is a nail-biter.  If it follows the script that everyone thinks rationally should happen, Florida by 7.  If the Vols aren’t ready then the boys in orange (and their fans) get bent over the table and take it the hard way from the Jorts tribe.

  Ohio: WIN — Ohio almost beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus last year until third quarter errors gave the game away.  Ohio will be trying to prove something and will com in hyped.  Thus, kjøpe billig cytoxan, be careful in writing them off.  The Vols better forget about the Florida game really quickly (regardless of the outcome) and be ready for this one.


• 
  
  Auburn: WIN — This one is intriguing, but I really think the Vols have an advantage here, albeit a small one.  I think this is one of those games where the Orange are glad to be playing in Neyland Stadium.  Close, but the Vols take it home.


• 
  
  Georgia: WIN — I think that the loss of Stafford and Moreno leave Georgia with an anemic offense which our defense can handle.  Furthermore, Minnesota MN Minn., with an effective running game (set behind a zone blocking scheme which will have had some time to gel) I think the Vols get it done in a barnburner that goes down to the wire.


• 
  
  Alabama: LOSS — This game could go either way, but I think Nick Saban will have time to get his offense settled by this late in the season and the home field advantage is just too much for the Vols.  That said, if they win against Florida and have anything left in the tank Volunteers leave it on the field in Tuscaloosa and could pull out an unlikely win.


• 
  
  Carolina: WIN — I think we return to what we have seen in years past from the Thunder Chickens as they awe the world with their average-ness once more.  I think one year after Spurrier pushed Smiling Mike to the point of firing the Great Punkin, The Ole Ball Coach announces his retirement the day after the Vols win.


• 
  
  Memphis: WIN — There is no way that the Vols should lose this game.  Of course, there was no way the Vols should have lost in 1996 either.  Still, a betting man calls this one a win.

  Ole Miss: WIN — The Vols have Memphis the preceding week, while Ole Miss has Northern Arizona (I didn’t even know they had a team).  Thus, both should have a week to get healthy and buck-up.  If Ole Miss is leading in the West, then the Vols have their work cut out for them.  If not, then the Vols have a lot more to play for — respect.  This could easily go Ole Miss’ way, but I’m giving the Vols the nod (for now).

  Vanderbilt: WIN — Hmmm … Vandy actually looks to have a better squad than last year, but so do the Vols.  Tennessee by double digits.

  Kentucky: WIN — The complete lack of a defense by the Kentucky Wildcats helps balance out Tennessee’s weaknesses on offense.  The Orange stretch the streak on more year.
