Two interesting looks at Coach Kiffin

Here’s an interesting and long (27 minute) clip of Lane Kiffin speaking to the Big Orange Tip-Off Club from — of all places — USA  He discusses recruiting, commitment, and where the program is going, among many other things.

Video:  Lane Kiffin Speaks to Tipoff Club

This is an interestingly unfiltered view of Kiffin only days after ruffling Urban Meyer’s feathers over his comments about Florida’s recruiting practices.  From the looks of things, however, no gag order has been issued by Smiling Mike Hamilton.

In addition to this video, there is a great article by John Ed Bradley on Kiffin in this week’s Sports Illustrated.  It is a great read and offers an interesting look into what makes Kiffin tick.  I particularly liked the description of how Kiffin managed to woo Ed Orgeron into joining the Tennessee staff — by treating him like a recruit.

In other news, I am working on a few things behind the scenes here at the Gate which, unfortunately, have eaten up a fair amount of my post-writing time.  Hopefully, I’ll be done with all the housekeeping soon.

In the meantime, yes, I did change the tagline on my signature from “Go figure…” to “So it goes…“  I suppose I was simply overcome by a moment of brief mortality and decided to be a little more matter of fact.  If anyone out there can identify what the significance my new tagline is … well … then you will win absolutely nothing (but you will make those around you tremble in fear when they face you in a game of Trivial Pursuit). Leave you best guesses, rude remarks, or wholly inappropriate innuendo in the comments.

No bonus points for me. I had to look up the reference, but that’s pretty clever. I’m curious to see if anybody knew it before hunting it down…

Heh! At least you were able to track it down. Of course there are a few hints buried in the post if you look carefully.

Of course I doubt anyone will, but “So it goes …”

Well, to be honest, I would never have gotten the reference, even with the hints in the text. Having never, um, encountered the source in question, the whole thing would have gone straight over my head.
