The Lady Vols Reign … AGAIN!!!
Coach Pat Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Vols earned yet another championship ring last night, as they completely dominated the Stanford Cardinal. With the 64 – 48 win, the Lady Vols and Coach Summitt recorded their eighth NCAA Championship. Coach Summitt probably said it best:
I told the team we might be going in as underdogs, but we would come out as top dogs…
Once again, the Lady Vols are the best team in the land, and once more everyone else is scratching their head asking themselves how it is that the Lady Vols have maintained such an enduring dynasty of dominance. In the last 21 years the Lady Vols have won eight national titles, and played for the title an additional five times. Their position as the preeminent team in Women’s Basketball is as secure as any claim in the sports world could ever be.
While it is ultimately the players that win championships, there are a lot of teams which have had great players — even players as good as the ones Summitt has coached over the years. So too, there are numerous programs which have facilities and resources comparable to those of the Lady Vols. The comparisons go on and on, and the end conclusion is that, in many cases, things really are not all that different at other programs. That is why so many people in the sports world have so wondered why it is that the Lady Vols have so dominated the field for such a very long time. There is one thing those other programs lack …
… those other programs don’t have Pat Summitt.
There really is nothing to say about Pat Summitt other than “she is the best … now, ever, always.” She is such an asset to the program, the University of Tennessee, and anyone who loves the color orange. More importantly, she is, perhaps, the single most important figure in the elevation of women’s basketball from its sideshow status in the 1970’s to the main attraction.
I could try and write a long and detailed description of why Summitt is the greatest ever, but there really is not anything I could say that has not already been said. That, in and of itself, speaks volumes on the success and reputation that Pat Summitt has earned.
Well done Lady Vols, you earned it. Once again, it looks like we will be hoisting a banner in the Tommy Bowl. Of course, between Pat Summitt and Bruce Pearl, we may need to have some more rafters installed, or we’re going to run out of space…
I can live with that…

I’m BAMA bred. But I never enjoyed basketball
SO much as I have watching Candace Parker and the
Lady Vols. I actually cheered and hollered for
them. (I won’t with football, though.)
Congratulations to our SEC GIRLS. I’m so proud
JEM,
Nobody will hold that against your Bama-ness. That was a unique team led by a unique player. On campus, they were all class – everything you could ever want in student-athletes.
And they are a lot of fun to watch. I personally am not a b-ball guy, as too much of it is too individualistic for my tastes. But that team was a lot of fun for me to watch, and I thoroughly enjoyed their game.
JEM: I’m glad you enjoyed watching the Lady Vols — they are such a value to Tennessee. Despite how much we all love our own teams, it is really great to get support from fans of other SEC schools.
Thanks for stopping by — feel free to comment of complain at anytime.
